Search Engine Optimisation
Search Engine Optimisation
(SEO) is the process of maximizing the number of visitors to a particular
website by ensuring that the site appears high on the list of results returned
by a search engine.
The below image is a play on
Maslow's hierarchy of needs, showing the fundamentals of SEO and how they are
built upon.
1. Affiliate marketing
Affiliate marketing allows a website to attract a customer to buy a product on another website using their link, through which they will receive a small commission for directing a customer to purchase the product.
2. Email campaigns
Email is an easy but effective way of websites marketing themselves to a wide range of people for cheap, this can help attract a new audience to a site. This can be combined with a newsletter to keep both the new and existing customers engaged.
3. Cybersecurity
To attract a new audience to a website, it has to be secure, both in terms of look & feel and actual cybersecurity. If a company looks & feels a bit dodgy, regardless of if the right cybersecurity is in place, people won't trust it. Quite obviously, if the right standard of cybersecurity isn't in place, users won't be confident enough to safely use the site.
4. Short-form content
As we've seen with the explosive rise of Tik Tok and Instagram reels, short-form video content is major in attracting new users, while being 'trendy'. People's attention span's have decreased significantly and so if a website is wanting to attract new users, it has to adapt to this and catch a person's attention in the first few seconds.
5. Social media presence
Companies with an active social media presence will inevitably attract more traffic to their website as they are constantly showing up in their followers feed and also being recommended to new users.
6. Mobile optimisation
Nowadays, most of the tasks we complete is on our phones, as such a website should be tailored for mobile support as well as desktop. If a new user clicks onto a website on their phone and it is poorly optimised, they will go elsewhere.
7. Ads
A website can choose to purchase ad space so that when a user is on another website they see the ad for your website. On the other hand, a website can host these ads as form of revenue.
8. Topic Expertise
Quality - if a website wants to improve their traffic, they need to improve their quality, if a website is not knowledgeable about the content on their site, why would a user want to use their site.
9. Collaboration with influencers
As mentioned earlier with the likes of Tik Tok and Instagram, social media is very important for driving traffic and collaborating with a social media influencers can help market your website to a new audience and if the right influencer is chosen, this new audience will engage with the website.
10. Keywords
SEO - keywords are a major point in searching for a topic, your website should include the keywords that potential new users search for regarding the given area.
